Uncle booked for rape and murder of 2.5-year-old niece

ghaziabad: A man in his mid twenties has been arrested by the Ghaziabad Police for allegedly killing a two-and-a-half-year-old girl in Kavi Nagar area. The accused who is a distant uncle of the victim has been booked under sections of rape and murder on the basis of compliant filed by victim's family. Police is yet to confirm the allegations of rape while the body has been sent for

post-mortem.

The accused identified as Chandan, a native of district Motihari in Bihar, used to work with victim's father at an engineering firm in an industrial area of Ghaziabad. As he had familiar relations with the victim's family, he often visited their home and shifted into a rented house in the same locality.

As per victim's mother, on Monday evening, her husband along with Chandan and two others were having drinks outside the house. When she raised objection, Chandan went to the other room and took the girl outside on pretext of playing games

with her.

"When he didn't return home till late night and we failed to trace them upon searching the locality, we informed the police. During midnight, we found Chandan roaming alone in the area and when we inquired him about my daughter, he told that he left her home with my husband," her mother

said.

However, police took Chandan into custody and kept on asking him about the child for which he told police that he left her home. Later, police recovered her body from the bushes near factory and during interrogations, the accused confessed to have killed her.

Following the incident, victim's father filed a complaint with the police alleging Chandan of killing their daughter after raping her. "The accused has been arrested and the body has been sent for post-mortem," said Kalanidhi Naithani, senior superintendent of Ghaziabad

Police.

Later on Tuesday night, the police said that the post mortem report had arrived and confirmed death due to strangulation. The report also confirmed rape, police said.
