New Delhi: A 23-year-old man died after he was hit by a cab in east Delhi's Samaspur on Saturday night. Police claimed that the incident took place during Ganesh Visharjan when the cab driver tried to escape from being thrashed by the group of persons.
Reports suggest that the deceased was dragged several metres by the cab and was seriously injured resulting in his death. DCP (East) Pankaj Singh claimed that police have not made any arrests in the case and raids are on in different places to nab the culprit.
Disclosing the sequence of the event, the DCP claimed that during the immersion of Ganesh idols, the cab driver hit one of the people who were in the group which led to an argument and soon turned into the scuffle. "The driver seeing that he can be beaten up by the group somehow sat in his car and drove the vehicle in high speed and the victim who was at the spot was hit," said the DCP.
Police said that the deceased identified as Rahul, was a resident of Pandav Nagar where he lived in a joint family. The other persons who were there cleared the way of the vehicle but victim was stuck on the bonnet.
The group started chasing the car but the driver sped away towards Mayur Vihar. They managed to get victim about two kilometres away lying on the road, with passersby and police on the spot. Victim's left hand had injuries. His face was badly damaged and he had severe injuries in the back. He was rushed to hospital where the doctors declared him dead. Police scanned CCTV footage from the area and further investigation is underway. In another case, a 26 year old man died and another person was injured after his stall was hit by a bullet bike at the Geeta Colony flyover on Saturday night. The driver of the offending vehicle is presently admitted in LNJP hospital and is undergoing treatment.
