New Delhi: As many as 33 unsolved heinous cases in the current year were the major highlights of the recent crime review meeting between Delhi Police Commissioner and 15 districts, units in June. Police sources said that the top cop reviewed the reasons behind the pendency of the cases and directed officers to solve them as soon as possible.
Police sources told Millennium Post that there are as many as 16 murder cases and 16 robberies and one carjacking cases which are yet to be solved. "In five robbery cases and one carjacking incident firearms were used," added police sources. The top cop also asked the senior officers regarding the progress in investigation and asked them to solve them quickly.
Sources added that the heinous cases were reported in 12 districts. "Five murders were committed in one district. The same district recorded the highest number of robberies which was four," police sources added. The Delhi Police data revealed that till May as many as 211 murders were reported from various parts of the city whereas last year (till May) 205 killings were reported in Delhi. Recently, Delhi witnessed five murders in 24 hours from various parts of the city.
"Murder is commited with deliberate intent. Such a crime may be the result of jealousy, rivalry or passion. The motive may be to gain something or profit or removal of an obstacle. The impulse may come from a quarrel or a provocation. Men's reaction is a decisive factor," said Delhi Police's annual report of 2018.
The data further revealed that last year nearly 1,160 robberies took place in the city till May. This year robbery decreased as 959 cases were reported. Police said that robbery and dacoity is one of the most sensitive crimes for citizens when they form a perception about the relative safety of an area. It is also one of the main concernes for the businessmen. Often suspects approach their target, threatening to cause bodily harm if the victim does not part with money or property.
Apart from reviewing the heinous crime, the witness protection scheme was once again discussed during the meeting. "City Police action under MCOCA was also reviewed by the top cop," added sources.
