New Delhi: Delhi Police on the first day of New Year arrested three brothers from Lajpat Nagar area for violating the timelines of firecrackers bursting. The investigating agency claimed that the patrolling team told accused about the Supreme Court directions on bursting fire-crackers but despite that, they kept on bursting fire-crackers.
Police identified accused as Rohit Brijlani (31 ), Nikhil Kakkar (29) and Lalit Kakkar (30). Deputy Commissioner of Police (South East) Chinmoy Biswal stated that during sustained interrogation the accused persons revealed that these crackers were purchased by them last year but due to Supreme Court directives on bursting fire-crackers as well as intensified police vigil, they could not burst them during Diwali.
"Therefore, they all decided to celebrate New Year by bursting the fire-crackers. Fire-crackers of the accused persons were duly seized and all three persons were arrested and later duly released on bail by the police. Further investigation of the case is in progress," said DCP South East. He further stated that accused Rohit Brijlani is the cousin of co-accused Nikhil and Rohit Kakkar. They all work in a private company.
Delhi Police in a Press statement claimed that in view to ensure compliance on the directives of the Supreme Court regarding bursting of fire-crackers, the teams of all Police Stations of the South-East District on the occasion of New Year sensitized RWAs and locals to celebrate New Year responsibly.
Further, on the eve of New Year, patrolling teams of the District tightened vigil and alert throughout the night.
