NEW DELHI: The Special Cell of Delhi Police has arrested three notorious gangsters involved in the kidnapping for ransom of a former councillor's son from outer Delhi.
Police said on Thursday the accused were identified as Manjeet Dabas (32), Arshu Shokeen (30) and Bhagat (30).
While Dabas carried a reward of Rs one lakh for his arrest, a reward of Rs 50,000 each had also been declared for the arrest of Shokeen and Bhagat by Delhi Police.
Cops said the kidnapping had been reported at Netaji Subhash Place police station on September 27, 2016.
After leaving his home in a BMW car, the victim Kartik Sharma, a resident of Budh Vihar, had reached near PP Jewellers at Netaji Subhash Place, where he was signalled to stop by a man wearing a traffic policeman's uniform and another in a police uniform.
As soon as Kartik stopped his car, a Scorpio car stopped near him, whose occupants grabbed him in and sped away.
The kidnappers then called Kartik's father Shambhu Dayal Sharma demanding a ransom of Rs 50 crore.
The father, however, negotiated and brought down the amount to Rs two crore.
The ransom was eventually paid and Kartik was released in Gurugram on October 3, 2016.
The case was soon transferred to Delhi Police Crime Branch, who found that Dabas and one Mahesh Thekedar had planned the kidnapping.
The Crime Branch team soon arrested four of the accused involved, while others remained at large.
Interrogation of the accused revealed that Thekedar was previously involved in three criminal cases and had a sub-contract of a toll plaza between Tikri Border and Daurala Border.
"There, he came in contact with the other accused, and conspired with them to kidnap the son of the ex-councillor," said Sanjeev yadav, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell).
