NEW DELHI: The Delhi Police’s Cyber Cell has apprehended a juvenile responsible for sending a series of hoax bomb threats to over 400 schools across the city.
The apprehension follows a swift and meticulous investigation, providing relief to educational institutions, students, and parents who were plagued by these distressing incidents over the past year.
According to the police, the breakthrough came after a coordinated effort by the Cyber Police of South District, who tracked the source of threatening emails sent to 23 schools on January 8. These emails warned of bombs planted on school premises, triggering panic, school closures, and disruptions to academic activities.
Immediate action was taken, and an FIR was registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and Information Technology Act.
Following the threats, the Delhi Police launched a thorough investigation, utilising advanced digital forensic techniques and cyber tracking tools.
The efforts culminated in the identification and apprehension of the accused, a juvenile from a public school.
The investigation revealed that the teenager had been responsible for sending multiple threatening emails to schools across Delhi, having used encrypted email services and digital tools to conceal his identity.
During the search of the juvenile’s residence, the police recovered a laptop and two mobile phones.
Preliminary forensic analysis of these devices revealed irrefutable digital evidence linking the accused to the bomb threat emails.
It was further discovered that the juvenile had been involved in previous cases of hoax threats sent to over 400 schools across the city.
The accused, whose identity is being withheld due to his age, is a public school student. His involvement in these hoax threats has raised questions about a possible larger conspiracy. Investigations have pointed to potential connections to an NGO with significant political influence. This NGO has been known for advocating on behalf of a political party, which has raised concerns regarding possible motives behind the threats.
Authorities are continuing their probe into the involvement of other individuals or organizations in orchestrating these disruptions.
The police are investigating the juvenile’s guardian, linked to an NGO, and exploring a potential political agenda behind the hoax bomb threats. The Delhi Police have issued a stern warning, stressing the severe consequences under criminal and cyber laws.
