Update: 2017-03-08 18:56 GMT
Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (Tata Power-DDL) has launched a Smart Meter Reading Device (SMRD) designed to facilitate accurate and error-free reading of meters as well as timely distribution of electricity bills.

The SMRD will ensure accuracy of meter reading, reduction in reading cycle time as well as compulsory capturing of photo of meter readings, in case of any anomaly in the meter.

The device will record the reading and data of the meter and will send the updates to the system automatically thus eliminating the scope of human error and wrong reading.

The device will also feature an onsite instant SMS feature that will send messages to the consumers in case of locked premises, thus reducing provisional billing.

Further, in trying to improve proper bill distribution, the device is also being designed to capture digital signatures from consumers in the touch pads of mobiles. The proof of delivery (POD) can then be uploaded to the system for future reference.

The new reading device also ensures an environment-friendly technology that limits paper wastage and aids in the reduction of carbon footprints.

Highlighting the benefits of the technology, Praveer Sinha, CEO and MD, Tata Power-DDL, said: "At Tata Power-DDL, we continuously try to innovate and strive to introduce new customer friendly-services. I am sure the SMRD device will not only ensure error-free reading of meters and timely distribution of bills but would also help in reducing carbon footprints."
