New Delhi: In order to curb the menace of child labour in the Capital, the Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights (DCPCR) has heightened their vigil at 18 places in Delhi. The child rights body claimed that during investigation they found out that the children are trafficked from different states and are kept under hazardous circumstances. They are forced to work for more than 12 hours a day for factories.
On Tuesday, the Commission rescued eight children, including one girl, from a button making factory in Govindpuri. The rescuers said that children were being paid only Rs 10 for 144 buttons.
"The children were mainly from Bihar, Bengal and slum areas of the city. They were kept under deplorable condition with no adequate facilities of food, water, and light," said DCPCR official adding that these children were found to work for more than 12 hours a day in lieu of a meager wages.
The Commission also suspects that there were more than 25 children who eloped from the location. The child rights body have already strengthened their vigil in the areas like Mithapur, Jaitpur, Sangam Vihar, Khanpur Extension, Khanpur Village, Tughlakabad Village, Hamdard Nagar, Garhi Village, Uttam Nagar, Kotla Mubarakpur, Kureji, Aram Park, Brijpuri, Jagatpuri, Jaffrabad, Wazirabad, Jahangirpuri and Seelampur.
"These places have been identified from where we received complaints of child labour. We have also found some new places, which will be added in the list soon," said Roop Sudesh Vimal member DCPCR. He further added that they have received more than 30 complaints of child labour so far this year.
Talking about the menace, Roop said that the children who mainly belong to different state came to Delhi and then get harassed by the factory owners. Unaccompanied kids face the worst conditions of bondage and slavery.
The commission also found that the rights to education, health, recreation, and safety of the children working in the factory are at stake. The further investigation in the cases has also revealed that the agents bring children after taking the consent of poor parents who are not aware of the consequences that their kids will face in the Capital.
