Superannuation cases: DUTA angry over DU's inaction

New Delhi: The Delhi University Teacher Association ( DUTA) expresses its dismay that despite repeated appeals, the DU administration has failed to intervene

in the case of the age of superannuation of two Associate Professors of Physical Education in Vivekananada College and Shyam Lal College (Evening).

"This constitutes a serious attack on the service conditions of Physical Education teachers and their livelihood. Both the teachers have contributed decades of service towards building Sports and Physical Education Departments in their respective college.

It is a great shock to see that instead of recognising their work, they are being targeted," DUTA said in a statement.

The statement also said that in trying to superannuate these teachers at the age of 62 (instead of 65), the two Colleges are violating of the last DU notification from the University dated May 12, 2017 which clearly stated Physical Educations teachers are part of the teaching faculty on the basis of the EC Resolution of 1990.

"It is clear that their service conditions are the same as teachers of other disciplines. The UGC Regulations 2018 lists Physical Education as a discipline and provides parity to faculty engaged in the Department with teachers of other science, humanities and social science Departments in terms of recruitment, promotions and retirement benefits," said Rajib Ray, President, DUTA.

"The DUTA finds it completely unacceptable that the University Ordinances (passed by the Academic Council but yet to be adopted by the EC) do not

include it as a discipline," said Vivek Choudhary, Secy, DUTA.
