Students of Delhi govt schools to get Rs 10L loan for higher studies: Sisodia
NEW DELHI: The students of the Delhi government schools after passing the class 12 board would get Rs 10 lakh loan from the Delhi government for the higher studies, announced Delhi's Deputy CM Manish Sisodia on Saturday. He also announced that Delhi government school students will not have to pay any fees to the Central Board of Secondary Education.
Addressing students during a felicitation ceremony at Thyagraj Stadium in New Delhi, Sisodia said, "If any student needs money for the higher studies after passing out from Delhi government schools, then the government will give Rs 10 lakh loan to the student. After completion of the higher study, the student will get 15 years to repay the loan," said the Deputy CM.
Sisodia said that they will no longer need to pay Rs 1500 to the education board. The announcement came after the top scorers in Delhi government schools, who were honoured for their achievements by Sisodia, told the minister that even as education was free, they had to pay Rs 1500 to CBSE.
The Deputy CM said that the Delhi government also has various scholarships for the students of government schools for their higher education. Students from a family with less than Rs 1 lakh income get a scholarship equivalent to 100% of his or her fee to study. The students from the families with income Rs 2 lakh to 6 lakh also get scholarships equivalent to 50% of the education fee.
Kejriwal-led AAP government in Delhi had made education free till class 12 in 2018. Prior to that, the government schools in Delhi provided free education up to class 8 and students of class 9 to 12 pay a fee of Rs 20 per month. In Delhi budget 2019-20 was announced by Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia in Delhi Assembly on February 26, 2019. The government has allocated over 15,601crore to the education sector and announced different initiatives including two new universities, an MBA course in the family business and funds for developing students' business plans.
