NEW DELHI: The Education department of the Delhi government has planned a spoken English course for its students and this course has been planned in collaboration with British Council and other international institutes.
"Government school students mostly come from economically poor backgrounds. When I meet them, their biggest demand was – Sir, hame English bolna sikhwa dijiye. I am so happy that this course is now starting for government school students," said Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
The Delhi government is inviting applications from government school students for enrolment in the 'Spoken English' course to enhance their language skills.
The programme has been organised in collaboration with the British Council, India-McMillan Education, Academy for Computers Training (Gujarat) and Trinity College London.
The last date for enrolment is May 23, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia tweeted. The course is open to full-time regular students who have taken part in Class 10 board exams and have passed the pre-board exams in three subjects with English as a subject. The course will begin in June.
This year, the Delhi government launched 'Mission Buniyaad' from April to improve learning levels of students attending primary classes in the state government and municipal schools. The project is on the lines of government's previous scheme called Chunauti, which assessed students of Class 6 to Class 9 and divided them into three groups based on their learning levels.
Delhi Education Minister Manish Sisodia announced that 'Mission Buniyaad' is being launched in all government and municipal schools to target students of Class III to Class VIII. The mission was launched after the National Achievement Survey found that majority of students between Class III and Class V in MCD schools did not perform well in science, mathematics and languages.
"The government decided to launch a three-month campaign at the beginning of the academic year 2018-19 itself with the goal that all children in Classes III to IX of the schools run by Delhi government, municipal corporations, NDMC and Delhi Cantonment Board should be able to read, write and do basic maths operations," said Sisodia.
