New Delhi: The South Delhi Municipal Corporation will conduct mega Parent Teacher Meeting in all of its 581 primary schools on Sunday, with the aim of getting parents' feedback on the education their children are receiving.
The PTM will focus on issues like welfare schemes by the government, the POCSO Act, water conservation, vector-borne diseases, and CPR training. SDMC, in a statement, said that the meeting will be held between 9 am to 12 am in first shift schools and between 2 to 5 pm in second shift schools.
Nandini Sharma, Chairperson of the SDMC Education Committee on Tuesday met with the principals of all the primary schools to brief them about the objectives of the PTM and bring them up to speed on issues to be taken up for interaction during the said
meetings.
The municipality said that it will be an opportunity for both parents and teachers to know about improvement in students' knowledge, progress in character building, and children's interests in various co-curricular activities.
SDMC Mayor, Sunita Kangra said that the municipality is going to focus on the overall development of the students as strong, conscious, and healthy children; so that they can, in the future, contribute to making the country strong and self-reliant.
She added that the parents will be informed about ways to prevent child sexual abuse among students through teaching their children about the ideas of "good touch and bad touch".
Sharma said that parents will be asked to express their views on the development of intelligence in their children.
"The SDMC is keen to enrich the interest of students in learning on the basis of feedback received from parents apart from bringing improvement in the quality of education," she added.
SDMC bans plastic bottles in meetings
Meanwhile, the SDMC, in its Standing Committee meeting, has decided that the municipality has banned the use of plastic bottles in all of its meetings and official gatherings.
Officials will now have to drink to water from paper glasses and dispensers, provided in these gatherings.
The move is expected to save the municipality around Rs 22,000 per month.
SDMC official made it clear that dispensers and paper glasses will also be available in SDMC house meetings, departmental and committees meetings.
The similar arrangements will also be made soon at all zonal levels.
