SDMC passes non official resolutions to stop sealing along 140 roads

New Delhi: South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) on Wednesday discussed the issued related to 140 roads which are under consideration to be declared as mixed use and shop cum residence plots as per instructions issued by Supreme Court to amend Master Plan 2021. Apart from this, the issue of conducting survey on those roads where mixed activities are on was also discussed. It was mentioned that identified roads be made part of the Master Plan 2021 on the basis of the results of survey.
Leader of the House Kamaljeet Sehrawat moved three separate non official resolutions which were carried by the House. It was stated that the process of declaring 351 roads as mixed use is on and 140 such roads are coming under the jurisdiction of SDMC. Earlier, Delhi government on the recommendation of Standing Committee of the unified MCD had notified certain roads as mixed use roads in September 2006 and April 2007.
The unified MCD after this had sent another proposal to Delhi Government on May 7, 2007 to declare 351 roads as mixed use roads since Delhi government has requested Supreme Court to give its nod for issuance of notification of these roads which were sent to Delhi government for issuance of notification. It makes clear that the proper survey as per established process was conducted as per provisions of Master Plan 2021. The property situated on 351 roads are protected by Delhi Special Act (special provision) 2007.
Sehrawat in her second resolution stated that Supreme Court on May 15 had instructed the DDA and Union UD Ministry to proceed further for amending Master Plan. It has been requested that sealing action in shop cum residence plots be halted till the process is completed and the information about this resolution be communicated to DDA's STF.
