Rewari rape: Accused sent to four-day police custody

Gurugram: The civil court in Rewari on Monday sent Pankaj and Manish, arrested on Sunday for the rape of a former CBSE topper, to four-day police custody.

Eleven days after the 19-year-old was raped, the special investigation (SIT) team arrested the two men around 5 am on Sunday from Satnali village of Haryana's Mahendragarh district, after which they taken to Rewari for further questioning.

Accused Pankaj was serving in the Indian Army for the last two years. He was posted in Rajasthan's Kota and had come to his village in Kosli on leave.

Pankaj was expected to join duty on September 20, but after committing the rape, went into hiding on September 13.

Nazneen Bhasin, head of SIT head and superintendent of police of Nuh confirmed the arrest on Sunday.

Without divulging too many details, she said that the accused had realised the enormity of their crime and left no stone unturned to evade cops.

The senior police official said that the two went to several places in Rajasthan and Haryana under various disguised to prevent being caught.

Meanwhile, the police custody of the other accused Nishu police custody has been increased by four more days.

Along with him, the custody of Sanjeev and Deen Dayal has also been extended.

Despite five accused having been arrested so far, the challenges faced by law enforcement officials in the case is far from over.

Sources indicate that there may more arrests may be made in the case.

Meanwhile, the rape survivor is yet to be discharged from the civil hospital Rewari and is currently undergoing treatment.
