New Delhi: Even though the situation seems to have calmed down post Delhi violence, families in different areas are still living in fear. Imran, a resident in the area said that men in different areas are up all night. "We are all very scared and don't know what will happen," he added.
The Muslim-dominated area of Sri Ram Colony has about 50 to 60 families, who always believed in the tradition of living in harmony. "We all live together without any issue, which is why we need to protest each other," added Imran.
People sat vigilantly hours after hundreds were injured and shops and houses burnt or destroyed. Aleem, whose house comes first from Khajuri Khas main road said that he has not been able to sleep ever since violence hit their area. "This is a nightmare and we feel helpless," he added.
He also said that the mob screaming and ordering someone to burn the house still resonates his ears. "So many men were injured when the mob entered the area. We are thankful to God that they were not able to burn any house, or else it would have been devastating," he added.
The residents said that a mob of hundreds had managed to come on the roof and they beat up anyone who was on the road. "They had swords and we had nothing. We were helpless," said Aleem.
Almost all areas of North East Delhi are witnessing such vigilant watch by the residents, who still feel unsafe. According to the latest data, police has filed 712 FIRs, made 2,647 arrests and detentions. Around 49 have been arrested for possession of illegal arms.
