Greater Noida: Following the irregularities found in the Uttar Pradesh government's mass wedding scheme, the Gautam Budh Nagar police have arrested three men for allegedly being involved in re-marrying for monetary gains. The matter came under the scanner after it was found that around eleven already 'married couples' had participated in the ceremony just for monetary gains. Police arrested the accused late on Monday night.
According to the police, the accused have been identified as Dharmender, Ravinder and Vinit, for allegedly involved in the remarriage case. The district administration of Gutam Budh Nagar lodged an FIR against four couples, gram pradhan of Cheeti village Babita Bhati and her husband Dharmendra Bhati for misusing the government scheme by enabling married couples to participate.
"Taking cognizance to the media reports on the irregularities found in Mass Wedding Scheme of the government, the district authorities discovered that a few of these couples were already married, and had gone through the procedure again simply to avail the benefits of the scheme," said Anil Kumar Singh, the district's chief development officer (CDO).
Police said that the arrested three accused in this matter have been sent to the jail. While two people are still absconding and police have formed teams to nab them.
"Four couples are named in the matter so far but we are arresting only the male members as the woman are found to be innocent in this case. The males have been booked under IPC sections 409, 420 and 34," said Farmood Ali Pundir, Station House Officer Dankaur police station.
Sources said that 10 names were added by the district's chief development officer (CDO) at the last moment on February 23 on the recommendation of gram pradhan's husband Dharmendar Bhati.
