Gurugram: Registration for students under the economic weaker section students under section 134-A has begun. The process will carry on until
April 6.
On April 7, examinations will be held for the students after which the results will be declared on April 11. With the admission process for the new academic session in progress, the private schools in Gurugram continue to face flak over their non-transparent procedures for admission of students.
Even as the directives have been issued to the Private school by the Directorate of Education (DOE), Gurugram to display the list of vacant seats on their sites, most Private schools are not following the order. A major reason cited for the Private schools not displaying their list of vacant seats online is to charge higher admission fees due to the limitation of seats in their schools.
Another reason cited for the Private schools not being transparent is to prevent Economically Weaker Section (EWS) students in getting admission in their schools. A large number of complaints is being received at DOE office in the city over the opaque procedures adopted by the Private schools. Even as the officials of DOE mention that the notices are being sent to the erring schools, most of the parents and observers complain that there has been no effect on the Private schools. Besides, not displaying the exact list of vacant seats online, there are also complaints against private schools of not being fully open about various components of the fees structures.
There has also been a complaint against a private school in the city which had asked parents to pay the amount in admission through hard cash.
"As per law, it is mandatory for the private schools to be transparent in their admission process. We have received certain complaints where most of the private schools are displaying their list of vacant seat online. We have sent notices to them. If even after this we find that the management of the Private schools does not rectify their actions, action will be initiated against them," said a senior official from the education department.
