New Delhi: The Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik has asked all 15 districts for a reassessment of the critical political premises as per the criteria of Election Commission of India.
On Tuesday, there was a crime review meeting in Delhi Police headquarters (PHQ) where a detailed discussion held regarding the upcoming Lok Sabha election in 2019.
Recently, the Delhi Police headquarters (PHQ) had asked all the districts to conduct proper checking in booths in their area where the previous elections were held and submit the report to them.
Police sources claimed that the district DCsP had asked concerned ACPs and SHOs to conduct a thorough verification of election booths and submit the report to them as soon as possible.
Police sources told Millennium Post that the districts had submitted a report on the critical premises in their respective areas. Out of 2,696 polling premises, 878 were categorised as critical polling premises.
"The police chief told districts to reassess the critical polling premises according to EC criteria. The number reported by the districts were on the higher side without justification," sources said.
In Delhi Assembly election 2015, as many as 741 polling premises were critical whereas in Lok Sabha Election 2014, around 416 premises were categorised as critical.
In 2013 Delhi Legislative Assembly elections, around 681 polling premises was termed as critical. Polling stations that went for repoll due to electoral malpractices will also be considered as a critical polling station.
Polling stations which saw over 75 per cent of votes going to one candidate would also fall in the same category or witnessed any sort of electoral violence during previous elections will be identified as 'critical' are few parameters for critical assesment.
Sources told that from Delhi Police headquarters a letter was sent to all districts in which it was written that it is proposed to deploy 178 flying squads (one from each police station and which will be including head constables (HC) and constables) and 178 static surveillance team (one from each police station) during the electioneering period for the General Election to Lok Sabha-2019.The role of squads is to keep a close tab on the illegal activity during the election which includes tracking illegal cash transactions or any distribution of liquor or any other items suspected of the voters.
