New Delhi: Adding a new leaf to country's efforts to combat cyber crimes a state-of-the-art national Cyber Forensic Lab (NCFL) facility under Ministry of Home Affairs' i4C (Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre) and Delhi Police CyPAD (Cyber Crime Unit) was inaugurated on Monday by the Union Minister for Home Affairs Rajnath Singh in Sector 16-C, Dwarka.
Special CP (Special Cell) Dr MM Oberoi stated that the new facility of i4C under MHA consists of seven verticals including National Cyber Forensic Laboratory (NCFL), National Cyber Threat Analytics Unit (C-TAU), National Cyber Reporting Portal and National Cyber Research and Innovation Centre. "The i4C has been constituted to have a 360 degree response to the growing threat of cyber crimes at the national level," said MM Oberoi.
He further stated that with this initiative, law enforcers will be able to proactively address cyber threats in coordination with other law-enforcement agencies, national & international cybersecurity organization and various online intermediaries.
The CyPAD of Delhi Police is a modern, comprehensive facility that aims to provide cyber investigation, cyber forensics and cyber safety and security-related services to the citizens as well as to other police units and agencies of Delhi.
The Union Home Minister, after inaugurating the facility, visited the various cyber forensic labs, including Memory Forensics Labs, Image Enhancement Lab, Network Forensics Lab, Malware Forensics Lab, Cryptocurrency Forensics Lab, Damaged Hard Disk and Advanced Mobile Forensics Lab.
While addressing the audience, the Rajnath Singh, expressed his confidence that with this facility, law enforcement agencies, esp. Delhi Police will be able to address the challenge of cyber crimes. He informed that the government has taken several measures such as Cybercrime Prevention of Women and Children (CCPWC) Scheme under which an online reporting portal www.cybercrime.gov.in and cyber forensic training labs have been established in all the States & UTs.
The Chief Guest also said that cyber awareness is very critical to proactively address the challenge of cyber crimes, and in this regard, MHA has started a very popular Twitter handle @CyberDost and Delhi Police have also taken various measures to spread awareness in all schools through school computer teachers.
The LG said that it a very timely step as cyber crimes, with their growing menace, need a dedicated setup for countering them through better investigation, detection and prevention.
