Provide internet connection at Public Facilitation Desks: LG to police chief

New Delhi: The office of Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal has written to Delhi Police for providing internet connection to Public Facilitation Desks, sources said.

The Delhi Police had launched public facilitation desk to serve as a one-stop window for redressing public grievances with courtesy and care. Sources told Millennium Post that a letter was written in February to Commissioner of Police (Delhi) with the subject regarding the Public Facilitation Desks in police stations of Delhi. "It has also been desired to provide an internet connection in Public Facilitation Desks so that these Desks can facilitate the lodging of e-fir as well," sources said quoting letter content. The cop managing the public facilitation desk will also have a laptop.

Sources further stated that the letter sent to Delhi Police also had six shortcomings found related to Public Facilitation Desks. An Action Taken Report on the issues is still awaited. "In few police stations, Public Facilitation Desks not working was among six shortcomings," added the source.

In December 2018, Lt. Governor Anil Baijal chaired law and order meeting and reviewed training programmes of Delhi Police. Lt. Governor stressed upon the importance of proper communication skills especially for PCR units and Public Facilitation Desk Officers to improve the public interface and make the services more people-friendly.

According to Delhi Police, Public Facilitation Desk Officers are attired in the specially designed civilian dress so that the fear of uniform does not become a barrier in smooth interface and facilitation.

"Public perception of police image is incumbent on many facets of police performance but the telling contributory the factor is how a complainant is handled when he/she approaches a police station with a grievance. Keeping this in mind, Delhi Police has initiated its scheme of Public Facilitation Officers in Police Stations," police said.
