'Project Sanjay' by Gurugram Police to boost CCTV coverage across city

Taking cognisance of the rise in criminal activities in the city, Gurugram Police will install a large number of  closed circuit television cameras (CCTV) at various locations.

The project, under which a large number of CCTV's will be set up in the city, has been named 'Project Sanjay' by government agencies.

For Project Sanjay, the city police will collaborate with Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) and Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA), the civic bodies under whose jurisdiction many vital areas of the city fall.

"We will be implementing the plan to install large scale CCTV cameras across different parts of the city. We will partner with MCG and HUDA in this effort.

"CCTV cameras have certainly been useful for the city police in capturing various criminals in the city. Besides catching criminals, CCTV cameras have many other significant advantages," said ACP Manish Sehegal, Spokesperson, Gurugram Police.

Officials of Gurugram Police stated that not only will new CCTV cameras be installed under Project Sanjay, even the existing set of CCTV cameras, many of which have become defunct, will be rectified.

"Besides installing new CCTV cameras, we will also be replacing the current set of defunct cameras in the city with new ones," added ACP Sehegal.

Officials stated that though the initial focus will be on installation of CCTV cameras in busy areas of the city, there will also be plans to extend the project to the city's outskirts.

The areas that will be covered under Project Sanjay include Golf Course Road, Golf Course Extension Road, Sohna Road, Udyog Vihar, MG Road and Cyber greens area.There are also plans to put additional CCTV cameras along National Highway 8 and Gurugram–Faridabad road.
