Private schools in Ggn to be audited by public officials

Update: 2017-04-07 19:40 GMT
After several protests held by parents, the accounts of private schools in the Millennium City will finally be audited by the public officials.

This decision came after a high-level meeting of government officials at Chandigarh on April 5.

The parents have been raising complaints against various private schools in the city charging hefty school fees for a long time.

The pleas went unheard as the government had failed to act on the issue in the past.

Several parents told Millennium Post that they are satisfied after the Government intervened in the matter.

They also expressed concern that in the past despite flouting of laws there has been no action on the erring private schools.

"There is nothing new as far as Government's decision of auditing the private school accounts. As per the High Court's direction, this was required to be done by the Government.

However, most of the private schools were able to hoodwink the Government by submitting false detail on Form -6 and get away. We hope that this time there will be due diligence paid by the Government officials in auditing the accounts," said one such parent, Devesh Kumar.

The same sentiment was echoed by another parent Sumitra Bharadwaj,"

|The private have exploited the Right to education rules to their favour. Most of the schools are allowed to reserve certain seats for the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) students. However, with the lack of transparency, they do not fill up the seats.

Then on the pretext of mentioning that their losses must be recovered, they charge hefty fees from the unreserved category."

Recently the groups of parents under All India parent's forum for education held a protest march to the Mini Secretariat in Civil lines area against forty private schools in the city for charging hefty school fees. The parents are also planning to protest at Jantar Mantar on April 9.
