Prajapati rape case: Victim's kin alleges cop threatened to kill

Update: 2017-03-03 20:16 GMT
The relatives of the woman who had alleged that she was gang-raped by UP minister, Gayatri Prajapati, have alleged that they have been threatened by the UP Police and had their phones snatched by them. They have alleged that the official in the rank of DSP had threatened them of a fake encounter. The police, in the meantime, have claimed that there is not much substance in their complaints but have taken their complaint. The complaint was filed at Hauz Khas police station.

The complainant had alleged that the investigating officer of the case had barged into the room where the victim's daughter was admitted and threatened them and snatched their phones on Thursday.

The victim's daughter, who was also sexually assaulted by the minister, is undergoing treatment in a restricted ward at AIIMS.

"The lady officer pushed the girl who is undergoing treatment and pestered the mother to record the statement. When we objected, the lady officer threatened to get us killed in a fake encounter," alleged the complainant, who claimed to be a cousin of the victim.

Police sources said that cops had gone to AIIMS on Thursday after a PCR call was received from the victim's family.

However, they found nothing that substantiated their allegations about their phones being snatched and they being threatened by the UP Police.

"We have not registered an FIR in the case but have received the complaint from them and are examining the contents of the complaint," said a senior police official.

The investigating officer in question, Deputy Superintendent Amita Singh on Thursday had recorded the statements amid opposition by the family members at the AIIMS. The statement was videographed as per the rules under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, they added. Taking cognizance of a Supreme Court order, the UP police had tried to arrest Prajapati, who is currently on the run.
