The several colleges in Greater Noida and Noida are likely to witness a catastrophe of African students in their upcoming academic session.
The racial tension in the city will be responsible for this giddy season as many African students have chosen not to come to India for educational purposes. Those present, are in a hurry to complete their graduation and leave the land.
The twin cities are a hub of educational activities, with over seventy colleges set up by government as well as private universities.
The seats of these institutions remain crammed and are filled up by African students every year. The fee structure for these foreign students is high and the private universities make lucrative profits out of it.
But for the past one week, racial brawls in the city have brought several unspoken hostilities among the African students who came to India for better opportunities. Many of these students who have completed their courses, are now demanding for immediate issue of their degree and other documents from their institutions.
"Obviously they don't want us here. After the attacks on the people of our community, none of us can trust the townspeople anymore. As I have completed my course, I have applied for early issue of my documents from my college. Once I leave, I would choose not to come back and will advise all my community members to switch to some other country for their studies and other opportunities. Our community tremendous tension as they are concerned for our safety these days," said an African student, Mulonda Paswanzambi,
While speaking to Millennium Post, Zaharaddeen Mohammad, National Academic Coordinator, Association of African students in India said, "We have gone through tremendous tension in last few days. The way we have been treated in the city, surely any African student will think twice before coming to the city for studies".
"We like this city as it remains very quiet and pleasant but the current situation is no less than curfew for us. We are trapped in our homes and cannot live our life as per our own wish. If the same situation persists, the blacks will surely start moving to some other country and avoid coming to India," added Mohammad.
The colleges in Greater Noida alone edify over four thousand Black students with their largest population observed in Sharda University and Noida International University.
According to sources, there are over six hundred black students in Sharda University.
