Gurugram: Toxic air levels marred the celebration of Vijay Dashmi. Punjab and Haryana High high court had ordered that bursting of effigies and crackers were only to be undertaken for the period of three hours that was from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. For many residents, however, this was not a case of deterrence and many indulged in the process of bursting the firecrackers. Though there were celebrations in Dushhera in various clubs and parks where the effigies were burnt. Clubs and committees in the Millennium City opted for smaller effigies. A 26-year-old Dussehra committee reduced the height of its effigies from 75 feet to 50 feet. "We are all part of the problem and we should not contribute to it by burning huge effigies. We are therefore reducing the effigies from 60 feet to 20 feet. This year we have not just reduced the height but have also not even burnt additional crackers, says Ramandeep Singh, one of club managers.
