Police felicitate women who foiled Ggn bank heist

Gurugram Police Commissioner Sandeep Khirwar on Wednesday felicitated Poonam and Vimla, the two bank employees who thwarted a burglary attempt at their branch located in the outskirts of Gurugram on Monday.

Displaying courage and composure Poonam and Vimla, two employees at SBI Money transfer branch, not only foiled the burglary attempt but also were instrumental in the arrest of the two burglars, Mohit and Deepak.

The two were provided with certificate of appreciation and a monetary reward of Rs 5,000 each. "A courageous women is the basis of an empowered society, every women may win," stated the Gurugram Police Commissioner after presenting the awards to the two women for their valiant act.

Speaking after the felicitation ceremony, Vimla said, "It feels good when your act is being acknowledged by people at the higher authorities.  I feel delighted over the honour that has been accorded upon me and my colleague but more than the awards I feel more satisfied when I realise that I and Poonam were able to prevent a major robbery that was about to take place in our branch."

Speaking on the issue of women empowerment Vimla further said, "One incident is not enough for the society to change. The society must reform from within. There has to be respect for each individual."

Vimla and Poonam were able to foil the attempt dacoity planned by Mohit and Deepak.

Even as the duo were armed with country made weapons, both the woman did not show any fear and snatched their weapons from the two burglars and stopped them from fleeing.

The two then called passers-by, who came in and overpowered the two robbers. Eventually, the two were arrested.

Moreover, Vimla and Poonam also managed to pacify the crowd which entered the branch after they started becoming violent and began beating the two burglars mercilessly.

"The real credit for capture of Mohit and Deepak goes to the valiant efforts by Poonam and Vimla. Besides being courageous, the two were instinctive in their actions. They realised both Deepak and Mohit, though armed, were nervous to carry out the heist. They utilised their weakness and avoided the burglary from happening," stated Rajendra Singh, SHO Badshahpur police station, while commenting on the bravery of the two women.
