NEW DELHI: Delhi Police has deported nine Bangladeshi nationals who were staying illegally in the national capital, an officer said on Monday.

They were caught during verification drives conducted by the police.

Among the nine Bangladeshi nationals deported in January are those caught during verification drives in Jama Masjid and Nabi Karim areas, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) M Harsha Vardhan said.

“They include Mohammad Iman Hossain, who entered India illegally after paying an agent, and Mohammad Sharmin Parvez, whose visa expired in October 2024. Others overstayed their visas and were attempting to acquire Indian identity documents,” the officer said.

“We deported nine (illegal immigrants) in the first week of January while five were deported last year,” he added.

Police said that they were identified as Mohammad Iman Hossain (41), Mohammad Sharmin Parvez (43), Rakib Khan (24), Mafujul Islam (29), Shakil Sarker (24), Mohammad Monju Sarker (38), Shahin Danish (36), Taizul Islam (26) and Moin Mia (19).

Police have detained three individuals from Nabi Karim, where they were staying in a hotel. Upon checking their documents, it was revealed they had overstayed in India and were attempting to acquire Indian identity documents. In 2024, five foreign nationals—one Iranian and four Bangladeshis—were deported by central district police, following deportation orders from the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO).
