New Delhi: The Delhi Metro's Green Line to Haryana is a "gateway to development", Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Sunday as he flagged off the Mundka–Bahadurgarh section through video conference. Services between City Park station at Bahadurgarh in Haryana, and Mundka station in Delhi started at 4 pm.

The 11.2 km-long line is fully elevated and will facilitate travel of people employed in industrial units along the corridor, besides catering to the city youth studying in Haryana's upcoming educational hub.

Having seven stations, the Mundka–Bahadurgarh stretch is an extension of the existing Green Line, stretching from Inderlok to Mundka.

"After opening of the corridor, the entire Inderlok–Bahadurgarh section has become 29.64-km long," the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation said.

With this, the entire Delhi Metro network now spans reached 288 km and contains 208 stations.

With a population of 1.7 lakh, Bahadurgarh not only has many industrial units, but is also an upcoming educational hub, with many universities and colleges. "Mundka too has industrial units, and therefore the new corridor will facilitate to-and-fro travel for people employed there and students who have to travel from Delhi," a senior DMRC official said.

"According to the time table for the entire Inderlok–Kirti Nagar–City Park section, a total of 20 trains will be put into service," the official added.

"Every alternate train from Mundka will go up to City Park, and a frequency of around eight minutes will be maintained between Mundka and City Park. The total running time between Inderlok–Kirti Nagar and City Park will be about 50 minutes," he said.

Mundka Industrial Area, Ghevra, Tikri Kalan and Tikri Border are the stations falling in Delhi, while in Haryana, the stations are Modern Industrial Estate, Bus Stand and City Park. With Sunday's inauguration, Delhi Metro's presence in Haryana has expanded from 21 km to 25.8 km.

The facade of the Mundka Industrial Area station, the first station in the newly-inaugurated corridor, is decorated with terracotta designs. The remaining stations too have vibrant colour schemes, with bright yellow pillars.

"Elevators have been done in an eco-friendly way with terracotta tiles at all stations. The rooftops of the elevated stations have been redesigned for better aesthetics," the official said.
