Gurugram: If all goes according to the plan, Gurugram will soon be wifi zone in the span of six months. As of March, the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has laid optical fibre cables in the area of 106 kilometres out of 600 kilometres. The public agency has now begun the process of inviting the private companies for tenders for laying the poles and the wifi network. According to sources in GMDA, the process is going to be expedited as the modal code of conduct has now been lifted.
Sources indicate that most of the private companies have already expressed their interest in the project and has spoken to the top officials of GMDA. The project of making Gurugram fully wifi lies in the comprehensive framework of GMDA's objective of making the city fully connected through settelite technology.
It may be noted that the process of making Sadar Bazaar wifi was already initiated by the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram ( MCG). The process could however not fully become a success as it was not able to handle enough traffic of internet usage. On lines of Singapore, the GMDA is planning to launch a project of one map Gurugram where all the services and the department will be listed in Gurugram.
The application that will be powered by a geographical information system (GIS) will enable the citizens of Gurugram to get information about the public sectors functioning in the city by just one click. The public department ranges from urban bodies, forests, judiciary, agriculture, law and order and excise departments. With this, Gurugram will be the first city in the state to be under the surveillance of the satellite as the GMDA in collaboration with MCG has begun preparation. The officials have begun talks with various companies in this regard and are also planning to set up a dedicated centre where the data will be evaluated.
Grappling with illegal constructions, the initial objective of the enhanced technology is to help officials get comprehensive information of these structures so that the action can be taken against the owner. There are also plans to use this technology for collecting data on the illegal colonies so that steps can be taken to regularise them.
