New Delhi: After online registrations for admission to undergraduate courses in Delhi university came to a close on Thursday, varsity officials said that a total 2,78,574 applicants have completely filed their forms for various courses, and also paid the registration fees.

Among these, the number of applications received for undergraduate courses under the SC, ST and OBC categories is 1,02,055, the varsity stated.

Further examination of the various sub-categories revealed that a total of 60,376 applicants registered under the Other Backward Calsses (OBC) category in the non-creamy layer.

This means that of the total applicants, OBC applicants comprise 21.6 per cent.

The administration said that it exercised due diligence while accepting OBC certificates from applicants, as it had made it quite clear that OBC certificates should be latest and must be valid at the time of the candidate's admission.

The varsity also made it clear that the caste should be clearly mentioned and should be a part of the castes specified in the central government list.

"Certificates in the name of the parents are not accepted, rather the candidates should have the caste and the OBC certificates in their own names, to make up for successful completion of the registration," said a University official.

Talking about the scheduled caste (SC) aspirants, the official said that a total of 34,932 applications were received, comprising 12.5 per cent of the total applications successfully registered on the University's website.

Additionally, there are 7,547 Schedule Tribe (ST) applicants this year, who make up 2.7 per cent of the total paid applicants.

Apart from these, the University also received 12,423 applications for admission in the sports quota category.

Officials said that trials for admission under sports quota will kick-start on June 22 and last till June 29.

The sports trials will be conducted for 33 sports and games at 22 venues.

The centralised sports trials for various sports categories will be held at a dozen colleges of DU and about 10 other stadiums (both outdoor and indoor) located at DU and elsewhere.

The total number of undergraduate male applicants with DU this year is 1,44,248, while the number of undergraduate female applicants is 1,34,297.

In the unreserved category, 1,75,719 applications have been received this academic year.

In the Kashmiri migrants category. the University hasreceived 533 applications, while the number of applications received under the Children/Widows of the eligible Armed Forces Personnel category, i.e. the CW quota, is 3,558, the official said.

With rise in reservation, applications under PwD category rise by 34%

New Delhi: This academic session has seen an increase of 34 per cent in the number of undergraduate registrations under the Persons with Disability (PwD) category at Delhi University. A total of 1,574 aspirants registered under the PwD category for undergraduate courses, compared to 1,385 in 2017.

The increase in percentage has been witnessed after DU decided to increase the PwD quota from three per cent to five per cent for undergraduate admissions in the varsity, which was caused due to introduction of new categories under the PwD quota.

"Ever year, we see an increase of five to ten per cent in the number of applications registered under PwD quota. But this year, the increase is much higher. We had 21 categories this year under which an aspirant could apply for the PwD quota. The increase is clearly due to the increase in the number of categories," an official added.

The new categories introduced this year include intellectual disability, mental behaviour, disability caused due to chronic neurological conditions and blood disorder and multiple disabilities.

A total of 208 candidates registered under these new categories. The number of candidates registered under physical disability category this year increased to 1,574 from 1,385 last year.

This year acid attack victims were also given a chance to register for undergraduate admissions under the PwD quota, in the physical disability category. In 2016, the categories under PwD quota included visual disability, hearing disability and orthopedic disability.
