Gurugram: One more death of a child was reported in Gurugram due to diphtheria. The deceased identified as 7-year-old Deepanshu was a resident of Sector-27, Gurugram and had been ailing from the bacterial disease since October 12. He was earlier taken to Civil hospital but was later referred to a hospital in Delhi where he finally breathed his last.

Deepanshu's father who used to iron clothes for a living had earlier witnessed the symptoms of fever and throat pain in his son which led him to treatment for his son. The death has now taken the toll in Gurugram to three due to Diphtheria. The district health department still pegs the figure at two. The situation is worse in neighbouring Mewat where over 20 deaths have taken place due to the disease. Diphtheria is a bacterial disease and its common symptoms include sore throat, fever, cough, running nose, swelling in the neck, fall in blood pressure and irregular pulse," said a Civil Hospital doctor.
