New Delhi: Around 74 cases of kidnapping for ransom have been registered in last three years in which Delhi Police was able to arrest more than 150 persons after the investigation of the case.
The data accessed by Millennium Post stated that in 2017 (till October 15) around 15 cases were reported whereas in 2016 around 23 cases were reported. In 2015, approx 36 cases were reported. Out of 70, the police were able to solve 67 cases–in 2017 around 13 cases were solved and 32 accused arrested whereas in 2016, 22 cases were solved and 55 persons were nabbed while in 2015, 32 cases were worked out and more than 60 nabbed.
Police sources claimed that in several cases the accused were known to the victim as they can be friend or neighbors.
Recently, two persons were arrested and the juvenile was apprehended after they killed their friend in Mehrauli area. Police claimed that the plan was hatched after a girl with whom accused used to chat informed that the victim was taking interest in her and this activity of deceased was taken adversely by his killer friend.
Police also claimed that the accused knew that deceased Jaideep used to visit the Shani Dham Temple regularly and they find it the good opportunity. After reaching there, they started talking to each other. As per the plan, Naveen went behind Jaideep and strangulated him with the help of 'gamchha (a towel size cloth) and dumped the body in DDA jungle. They also made a ransom a call to mislead the probe.
In July this year, East Delhi Police rescued a doctor from the clutches of the kidnappers. Doctor Sreekanth had booked a cab from near Preet Vihar Metro Station for going to Gautam Nagar, Delhi. An Ola cab had picked him up for this journey. Subsequently, on 08-07-2017, the Ola cab driver made a telephone call to their Helpline and informed that he had kidnapped the passenger who boarded his cab. The caller and the Ola cab driver further demanded a ransom of Rs. 5 crore for releasing the passenger. The doctor was rescued after the brief shootout.
