The Special Cell of Delhi Police has arrested notorious criminal Zahid Khan, a member of the infamous Haroon gang.

Members of this gang rob cars on highways at gunpoint. Thereafter they use these cars in waylaying other cars and rob the occupants of their cash, jewelry and other valuables.

The gang members also waylay trucks laden with expensive items, abduct the occupants of the trucks and keep them confined at their hideouts. After unloading, they abandon the trucks.

The weapons used by the gang were kept in the house of Zahid Khan.

Members of this gang are desperate and ruthless and they open fire at the slightest provocation or resistance by the victims, the police said. They don't even hesitate to fire at the police when cornered or when likely to be arrested.

Zahid is a resident of Hathia in Mathura. He joined the gang of Haroon and committed highway robberies.

After the arrest of Haroon in January 2017, Zahid reorganized his gang consisting of Ikram, Alim, Saddam, Arif and committed more than seven armed robberies.

On April 25, specific information was received that Zahid Khan would come near Siraspur village to meet one of his associates.

"A raiding party was formed and trap was laid near Siraspur village, GT Karnal Road. At about 6 pm a person was spotted coming from bypass side. When police tried to question him he whipped out his pistol and tried to fire on the raiding party. Constable Akshay Kumar, without caring for his life, overpowered and snatched the loaded country made pistol from the accused," said Sanjeev Yadav, DCP, Special Cell.
