Noise pollution a major challenge for Ggn cops

Update: 2017-02-17 19:12 GMT
Regular incidents of crime in the city are not the only thing keeping Gurugram Police occupied. With noise pollution becoming one of the major issues of inconvenience for residents, there has been a rise in complaints to city police over people flouting rules and creating noise pollution.

Playing loud music after 10 pm and undertaking construction activities at night are the most common complaints received by the cops.

With Gurugram Police also active on social media platforms, many residents have also taken to the mass interactive medium to convey their complaints relating to noise pollution.

Despite the presence of strict laws enacted by the Supreme Court to counter noise pollution, there seems to be no respite for Gurugram residents.
Though police officials claim that action is regularly taken to curb activities that cause noise pollution, most of the residents are not impressed by the claims.
To highlight the problem of rising noise pollution levels in the city, many residents have taken to complaint redressal mechanisms. "I live in Sushant Lok.

There is a bar-cum-restaurant nearby. Every day, from 12 am to 5 am, the owners used to play loud music. I have an octogenarian mother. Despite my complaints, police did not take any action. It was only when I used other mediums to express my grievance and tried to involve the RWA that my concerns were actually addressed," said Garima Sachdeva.

"Noise pollution is one of the major problems in the city. Most of the people who do not face any action keep playing loud music in the residential areas and create troubles for other residents," Sachdeva added.

Speaking about the action taken by Gurugram Police over the issue, a senior Gurugram Police official stated: "We charge the offenders who create noise pollution under Section 188 [of Indian Penal Code]. There are several complaints that are received by the PCR about people playing loud music after 10 pm and troubling residents. Our officials take action on these individuals accordingly."

"Taking cognisance of the fact that police may not always be present everywhere, we have also asked private security personnel in residential colonies to coordinate with us in reporting complaints about people who create noise pollution," added the senior police official.
