In another act of defiance of law and order in the city, a toll booth attendant at Kherki Daula toll booth was abducted and thrashed brutally by a group of men on Thursday.
The incident comes less than a week after another toll booth attendant was mercilessly beaten by Hoshiyar Yadav, former Gurugram block committee chairman.
The incident occurred around 11 am on Thursday, a time when heavy rush of traffic is often witnessed in the area.
According to the investigating officer in the case ASI Mohammad Sharif, a group of 10-15 people first kidnapped the toll attendant, identified as Mukesh, at gun point and then beat him up at a different location.
Sharif claimed that Mukesh was beaten as he had not accepted the local identity card of the culprits, which would have exempted them from paying the toll.
"The incident occurred around 11 am. Mukesh did not accept the local identity card of the culprits, as a result of which they had to pay the toll. These guys later, in a group of 10-15 people, came back, identified Mukesh, abducted him at gun point, took him to a different place and beat him up. Mukesh has suffered some injuries, though they are not very serious," said Sharif.
An FIR under Sections of 323, 506, 243 and 365 of the IPC has been lodged against the offenders, stated the investigating officer.
The incident again led to toll booth attendants expressing their concern about the lack of security provided to them. "Not even a week has passed and there is another act of violence against toll booth attendants. With the security of toll booth attendants coming under constant threat, we demand better security arrangements," said Kripa Singh, a toll booth attendant at Kherki Daula.
