Family of 3 found dead in suspected suicide case

Update: 2017-02-12 17:40 GMT
In a shocking incident, three members of a family were found dead inside their house in Rohini District's Rajiv Nagar extension area on Sunday morning. A suicide note has been recovered from the spot.

The police have alleged that the family had committed suicide. While the deceased, Rajesh Gupta, was found hanging, his wife and 14-year-old daughter were found lying on the bed with strangulation marks on their neck.

According to police, the deceased have been identified as Rajesh Gupta, Uma Gupta and their daughter, Shweta Gupta. Rajesh owned a tempo truck that used to
be driven by one person, who was working for Rajesh. His wife Uma was a housewife, while their daughter was a class 9 student at Indraprastha School.

The family had been living in the two-storey building for the past 2 years, but they have lived in the locality for more than a decade. The incident was first reported by
their neighbour, Bablu, who stayed on the first floor of the two-storey building.

Bablu was unable to open the main entrance of the building as the keys were kept with the family. "The family used to wake up early in the morning. His wife would
habitually start cleaning the entire house, while his daughter would prepare for school. But for some reason, they had not come out of their house," said Bablu.

Despite repeated attempts, the family did not respond after which he decided to open their door. "It was not locked from inside. I shoved at the door, and found

Rajesh hanging. I immediately called up the police," he said.

The police reached the spot around 9:25 am. By the time the team reached the spot, Bablu had started shouting about the bodies, and the locality gathered outside the house, and managed to break open the main entrance to the building.

The police found that Rajesh had hung himself, and his wife and daughter were found lying. "We found strangulation marks on the wife and daughter. So far, we believe that this is a suicide," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Rohini), MN Tiwari.  Furthermore, a suicide note was found from Rajesh's pocket, in which he has written that nobody is supposed to be blamed for their death.

The residents of the locality could not believe that the family committed suicide. Many have told this paper that the family had never picked a fight in the locality or
was under financial distress.

"They were a happy family, I met them all just yesterday and they were behaving normally," said Narendra Kumar, a resident. The family's relatives had also testified to the fact that the family was under no prior stress and would keep to themselves.

"I never imagined that something like this would take place. I got to know about this when I called Uma's phone and the police picked up. The family had recently attended a wedding together in the locality. They were all behaving normally. We are yet to come to terms with this," said Keshav Gupta, a relative. "We are investigating the case from all angles and are waiting for the post mortem report to shed further light in the case," Tiwari added.
