The Regional Transport Authority officials of the Haryana Government have acknowledged that most of the 145 Pollution under Control Centres (PUC) are faulty.

The acknowledgement by the Haryana Government officials came at the official meeting conducted by Environment Pollution Control Authority (EPCA). EPCA is a body set up the Apex Court to devise measures for control of rising pollution levels in NCR.

Trilok Chand from RTA Haryana accepted that there is a possibility that most of the PUC centres in Gurugram are using faulty devices and are certifying polluted
vehicles to ply in Gurugram.

Chand also conceded that there is no action plan by the Haryana Government for checking the rising pollution levels in the city.

"Out of 145 centres, I have inspected 30 centres. Out of 30 centres, I found 6 to be defective," said Chand

At present, we are also falling short of inspectors and engineers who are allowing these centres to get away with issuing certification to the polluted vehicles, said
Chand.

Chand also admitted that there may also be a possibility that most of the PUCs are providing the pass certificates without even checking the vehicles.
