In a shocking incident, a visually impaired student from the Institution for Blind in South-East Delhi's Amar Colony area was allegedly sexually abused by his senior from the same institute. The police have registered a case in the matter and the accused has been arrested.
According to a senior police official in South-East District, the case had come to light when the victim's uncle had written a complaint to the school authorities. In his letter, he had alleged that his nephew was sexually assaulted by the accused, who is studying in Class XII at the Institute. Taking cognizance of the complaint, the school authorities had registered their complaint at Amar Colony police station. A staff member S P Singh had reported that the accused, a resident of Firozabad in Uttar Pradesh, had sexually assaulted a 10-year-old Class III student on January 1, 2017.
The boy had later told his uncle about the incident who immediately reported the matter to the school authorities.
"Looking at the gravity of the case, I had immediately asked the accused to meet me. I had also called the victim's uncle and the music teacher, Raj Kumar. Together, we confronted the boy and he soon confessed to his crime and asked for our forgiveness," said S P Singh.
However, this was not the first time that the accused was involved in a case of sexual assault. On December 20 last year, the accused had allegedly tried to sexually assault a Class VIII student. The boy later narrated his ordeal to his father, who gave a written complaint to the school authorities.
The vice-principal of the school confronted the boy who broke down and confessed to his crime. However, the school authorities took a controversial step and allowed the boy to continue with his studies despite the allegation.
"We had decided not rusticate the boy as he was in his final schooling year and was supposed to appear for his board exams in the month of March and April. We had counseled the boy and told him to behave himself. He was told that he could stay for three more months in the hostel, but when this case came to the fore, we decided to lodge a police complaint," said Singh.
The police have registered a case under Section 377 of IPC and POCSO Act 4. The boy was later arrested after the FIR was registered.
