Asif, a notorious robber, had recruited several youngsters in his gang by displaying his trigger-happy persona demonstrating a tendency to open fire anytime and anywhere at his will.

He also used to display his machismo by the barrel of the gun in order to woo several women, who would be taken on all-expense paid trips to Goa.

Asif will now spend the Valentine's Day in jail, far from the comforts of a life that he was used to, as the police were able to nab the elusive robber through his girlfriends.

Asif, along with four of his associates were arrested on Tuesday, when inputs were received that the gang would come near Pandav Nagar to commit a robbery.

They were arrested with two country-made pistols and two stolen motorcycles.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (East), Omvir Singh, the case had come to light when the complainant in the case, Sanjay Sharma, a salesman with Rajhans Oil Company, had reported that he was robbed of Rs 4 lakh near Pandav Nagar petrol pump by four men at gunpoint.

When the police had investigated the case, it was found that the accused would change their bikes to avoid detection. Asif also used to roam around in different cars. The police had activated local informers but Asif stayed one step ahead always.

"Asif had recruited several youngsters by displaying his bravado. He had used this gang to keep an eye on the police. Whenever
our team would reach his location, he would be tipped off," said a senior police official.

Asif, however, had one weakness — women. The police managed to track several of his girlfriends and they managed to find out that he paid
regular visits at multiple places — Pasonda, Chilla, New Ashok Nagar and Trilokpuri.

When Asif was interrogated, it was found that he used to wear a mask when he would travel in Trilokpuri to avoid detection.

"He would change his hairstyles regularly and would wear masks. He would open fire at anyone and has also fired at the police.

"The money that he would make through his robberies was spent on his girlfriends. He would take them to Goa after every big heist and splurge all of his money on them and return to Delhi," the official added.
