In a curious twist to the Ghaziabad Audi hit-and-run case, the driver of the Audi, Ishaq Ahmed, who had been accused of ramming a car into an auto-rickshaw in Indirapuram, said that he was in Ahmedabad on the day of the accident.
On Tuesday, Ishaq Ahmed met Senior Superintendent of Police, Bareilly, to seek justice as he was nowhere involved in the case and someone has misused his driving license to get bail from the court.
Ahmed said: "Imtiyaz was my co-tenant. Only he had the coloured copy of my driving license as I gave him for getting a SIM card but I forgot to take it back. I have a heavy vehicle driving license and haven't even seen an Audi. I don't even know the owner of the Audi car, Dr Manish Rawat, a neurosurgeon in Delhi's Safdarjung hospital.
On January 31, I was at home when the person impersonating me took all the blame."
"I was somewhere near Assam when I got the notice that my driving license has been illegally used by someone to get bail in a high profile accident case. With a fear of getting into trouble, I handed over the truck to the co-driver and returned on a train. As soon as I came to Bareilly, I met Imtiyaz who told me that he did it for some money," added Ahmed.
Ahmed is now planning to go to the Ghaziabad Police to tell them that he is innocent.
On the night of November 28, a fast moving Audi Q7 car had a head-on collision with an auto-rickshaw killing four people travelling in the auto. Those in the car fled for the fear of getting trapped. Police identified the car belonging to Dr Manish Rawat, who later joined the investigation on February 5.
The con who was claiming to be Ishaq Ahmed had appeared before the court in Ghaziabad on January 31 and he had given a statement that he was driving the SUV. He even submitted a copy of the driving license in the name of Ishaq Ahmed as part of judicial formality. Later, he had secured bail.
Two days after his bail, police identified that the person who surrendered before the court is an imposter and have illegally used some other person's documents.
