Singapore Embassy worker dead as car rams into pole

A man working with the Embassy of Singapore died in a road accident after he lost control of the Wagon-R that he was 
driving and hit a pole in New Delhi's Chanakyapuri area on Saturday night.

His 22-year-old wife, who was accompanying him at the time, received injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at AIIMS.

The police are trying to probe whether the deceased, identified as Pattrick, was driving under influence when he was driving.

The accident took place near the Czech Embassy located on Niti Marg.

Pattrick – who had been working at the Embassy of Singapore for the past few years – was returning from work and was on his way home.

His wife, whom he had married a short while ago, was in the car with him.

On Saturday night, when his car reached the Czech Embassy, Pattrick suddenly lost control of his vehicle.

The out of control Wagon-R swerved from the road and made its way to the footpath.

Pattrick tried to get the car back on the road, but he crashed the car right into an electric pole, which fell onto the street.

The impact of the crash rendered Pattrick unconscious.

According to a senior police official: "We have several eyewitnesses who have claimed they saw that the Wagon-R was over-speeding. They have reported that the Wagon-R, lost control and hit the pole."

"The witnesses reached out to rescue the couple and managed to pull them both out of the car and called the police. A team has been assigned
to look into the matter," the police official added

Pattrick was soon rushed to Ram Manohar Lohia hospital. The doctors looked into hiss condition, though after some time, he succumbed to his
injuries.

His wife, meanwhile, was later shifted to AIIMS, where he condition had been critical at night. Later, her condition had improved.

"When we investigated the case, we found that the victim was working with the Singapore Embassy. We contacted his family and told 

them about the incident. We are questioning the eyewitnesses and also his co-workers to find out if whether he was driving the car drunk. We are waiting for his medical report to confirm the fact," the official added.
