The Delhi government has made it easy for the differently-abled persons to use community toilets by reserving one seat for them in every toilet complex of the city. The reserved seat will be designed separately to suit the requirements of the differently-abled persons. A facility of ramp and wheelchair will also be provided by the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) in the complexes.

The AAP government holds installing of community toilets as one of its key projects. Till date, 7,000 toilets seats have been installed and 7,000 more are likely to be added before March.

In the old toilet complexes, where construction is not possible, the agency is installing western seats for the comfort of the differently-abled individuals.

"After suggestions from the civil society, it is now compulsory to have one reserved seat in every complex," said a DUSIB official.

"Special arrangements have been made for Divyangs and also ramps are provided in all toilet complexes," he added.

Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board's (DUSIB) aim is also to focus on hygiene and tap water has also been provided in all toilets. Also, ceramic tiles up to lintel height are being put up in the toilets to improve them.

"All signages have been standardised, improved and made more informative. We are also sensitising our staff and residents in maintaining cleanliness. From February 2015, when the AAP government took over, DUSIB has added 58 complexes," the official said.
