He is a pilot in the Delhi Police PCR and there was no reason for Constable Sandeep to pose in a photo fully drenched in water. It was just the fact that the public that gathered at the spot was tempted to click his photo saluting his brave efforts saving the life of a man who jumped into Munak Canal in Outer Delhi.
February 1 was just another duty day for Constable Sandeep who is posted in the PCR department of the Delhi Police. Sandeep joined his duty at 8 pm sitting at the wheels of the PCR that he has been driving for a long time now, waiting for a call with ASI Ashok. Soon they got a call of a scuffle at 8:24 pm and they headed towards the location. They did not reach far, when they got another call that a man has jumped into the Munak Canal and has left his Skoda car behind. The wheels of the PCR automatically moved towards the canal. ASI Ashok took out the commando search light from the PCR and flashed on the deep water. The man was seen drowning.
Without wasting a second, Constable Sandeep Kumar jumped into the dangerous canal to rescue the man without waiting for the divers to arrive.
"Had I waited for the swimmers to arrive, it would have been late. So I jumped in taking the risk with my swimming abilities. Saving the life was more important," says Sandeep.
A rope was thrown into the water by ASI Ashok and soon Sandeep brought the man up and was immediately rushed to the hospital. The brave effort was appreciated by his seniors as well.
"My Hero! Constable Sandeep jumped in the freezing waters of the canal and saved Vikas from drowning," said Sanjay Baniwal, Special CP (Operations).
