The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) on Sunday wrote to Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar and Delhi Principal Secretary (Home department) SN Sahai, in connection with a complaint registered by a woman who has been denied the legacy that her father left after his death.

83-year-old Tej Kaur, a resident of Rajouri Garden, sought help from the DCW after Central government authorities denied her access to the inheritance her father had left behind several decades ago.

The complainant stated that after the sudden death of her father in 1949, it came to light that he had left behind several properties and assets in Japan.

Kaur's mother and brother made continuous efforts and also had several communications with the Ministry of External Affairs, regarding access to her father's assets.

Kaur got possession of the files containing the property documents after the death of her mother and brother in 2002.

Since then, she has been persistently seeking help from different authorities.

Despite producing several documents mentioning the properties left behind by her father, the Indian Embassy in Tokyo in 2009 wrote back to Kaur that they were still making efforts to trace her father's properties.

DCW Chief, Swati Maliwal has urged Jaishankar and Sahai to look into the matter, as well as meet the complainant to resolve her problem.

The Commission has also asked them to provide a factual report on the issue within 15 days of receipt of the letter.
