In what can be another incident to the continuing pattern of rising crimes against infants in the city, a body of a five-year-old girl was again recovered in the city.
The deceased infant was found in a water tank situated in Guru Dronacharya Park in the Civil Lines area.
The incident was reported around Wednesday afternoon, following which a team went to the spot.
With there being widespread reports of rising crimes against children in the city, certain senior police officials also visited the area and tried allaying their fears.
Based on sources, the body was in the water tank for over a week and was recovered in a swollen state.
Though it has not been confirmed, it is believed that the infant was sexually assaulted and later killed.
A senior police official who is in charge of investigating the case mentioned that the body of the child has been sent for post-mortem.
The official also mentioned that the information of death has been passed on to the child's parents.
"The body has been sent for post-mortem. We will be able to provide further details only when all the facts will be known to us," said the Gurugram Police official.
"We have informed about the death of the child to the parents. The child's parents reside in the nearby slums around Civil Lines," added the official.
This incident follows a day after the confirmation of a 10-year-old infant whose body was found near Tau Devi Lal Park near Sushant Lok who was raped and later killed.
The hunt for the rapists and the killers of the child is still on.
