MCD employee commits suicide, cops say no foulplay

A 46-year-old Municipal Corporation Development (MCD) employee allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself at his flat in Azadpur area in South-east Delhi. The deceased has been identified as Sunderpal, who was also involved in a cheating case and had got bail in those cases.

The incident came to the fore on Monday when the police received a call informing them about a suicide.  "We were informed that a man had hung himself inside his flat. A team was deputed to inquire into the incident. We entered the flat of the victim and found that he had hung himself from the shaft of the house with a plastic rope. His body was taken down and we took him to the nearest hospital," said a senior police official.

Later, the police started investigating the case and it was found that he was an MCD employee staying with his family at Siddarth Extension, Pocket C, Ashram, near Sunlight colony police station area. The police also found that the deceased was involved in a cheating case which was registered at Burari police station. He had recently got bail in the case form a court.

The police have so far ruled out any foulplay in the incident and are investigating the case from all angles. 

"We have shifted the body to the local mortuary and the inquiry in the case is underway. We are talking to his family and friends to ascertain as to why he took the extreme step. Further proceeding  under Section 174 CrPC has being taken," the official added.
