- LG Anil Baijal on Saturday inspected Bhalswa landfill site, overburdened with city's waste, and stressed efficient solid waste management strategies to address the problem.
- The site, overburdened with waste and resultant fires, has also been a source of air pollution.
- He also directed the agencies concerned to work in coordination with Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC).
- "LG emphasized that there is an urgent need for immediate intervention at the landfill site and directed the Municipal Corporation to use modern technologies to resolve the problem at the earliest," stated a statement issued by the LG office.
- Meanwhile, with the under-construction Signature Bridge near Wazirabad missing several deadlines, Baijal directed the officers concerned to send to him a monthly-progress report of the bridge.
- The move is intended at monitoring timely completion of the project which was conceptualised in 2004 and is being executed by the Delhi Tourism Department. Recently, the Delhi government extended the deadline for completion of project by five months from April to September this year.
