NDMC inaugurates Science Fair

New Delhi: The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) Commissioner, Dharmendra on Thursday inaugurated the Council's 4-day-long NDMC and Navyug School Science Fair, centres around 'Science and Technology for Sustainable Development' at the Atal Adarsh Vidyalay (Prathmik) in Lodhi Road here. In his inaugural address, Dharmendra said that the NDMC is making all efforts to develop an eco-system for creating an environment to encourage cretivity and intelligence in students in the field of science and humanities. "NDMC schools have 10 Atal Tinkering Labs at present and it will be provided in all NDMC schools as a dedicated space for innovative ideas transforming into the creativity by students," he said.

While addressing students, teachers and other officials, Dharmendra said that he was really impressed with the Annual Science Fair that NDMC has been holding for years in its own schools. "The level of projects and models made by the students are above their age and class and shows their interest in learning. Students are reflecting the solutions to social problems in their exhibits for Solar Energy, Smart Farming and other aspects of day to day life," he added.

NDMC's Education Director, RP Gupta also spoke at the event and said that this science fair has been a feature of NDMC for years but the Council has started encouraging participation of other private and public schools in these fairs as well. "This year St.Thomas, St.Columbas, Modern School, Barakhamba Road, Hamdard Public School and other aided schools are participating in the exhibition," he said.

He added that the main objective of such fairs was to provide a platform to the students who showcase their imagination and creativity through various exhibits. Over 200 students and 100 teachers from the 50 NDMC, Navyug, Aided Schools, Public School, Kendriya Vidyalaya and Delhi Government Schools of NDMC area have been participating in this science exhibition.

As many as 140 exhibit models have been displayed in sub-themes like Sustainable Agriculture Practice, Industrial Development, Resource Management and Future Transport and Commutation. Apart from the exhibition, other activities like poster-making, science quiz, science debate, Yoga performance were also part of the fair.
