N-E Delhi riots: Injured people queue up at GTB hospital

New Delhi: Hoards of people stand in a line trying to get the medicines for those who were injured in Delhi violence that rocked the city from February 23 to February 25. The number of injured was more than 300 and created a lot of chaos in hospital, especially GTB as most of the injured were being rushed there. "It took us two hours to get the medicine," said a resident of Kardam Puri, whose relative was shot in the back.

In a data received by GTB about 67 were injured by a gunshot, while 30 injured were minors. About 170 were assaulted or burnt, while 31 received other injuries.

In GTB Hospital, 44 people have died till now, out of which 13 received gunshot, three were stabbed, while 24 were assaulted and burnt. On the other hand, the maximum number of injured were male, while the age group between 30 to 34 and 20 to 24, were injured in the process. The hospital still has a few patients who have not been discharged as the injury is very intense. But with most of the patients discharged, the families have been called for check-ups frequently.

Many people are traumatised by the incident and are taking therapy as advised by the doctors. "Why this happened, we don't know. But I really hope that my child recovers after this," said a resident of Mustafabad.

Even as it has been 10 days since the violence was subdued, people are still trying to cope up and live a normal life. The death toll in Delhi violence has risen to 53. About 44 have died at GTB hospital, five at RML hospital, three at LNJP hospital and at one at Jag Pravesh Chandra hospital.
