New Delhi: The body of a 28-year-old woman doctor was found inside a room of Maharaja Agrasen Hospital in west Delhi's Punjabi Bagh area on early Sunday morning.
Police stated that the parents have alleged harassment from the hospital. The investigating agency has found a syringe lying next to her body and a mark on her left hand.
Police identified the deceased as Astha Munjal who worked in the neurology department. She was married to Dr Udai Dhingra of Guru Teg Bahadur hospital in Shadara. Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Monika Bharadwaj stated that at 5:50 am, a PCR call was received regarding Dr Astha Munjal who has been found dead in hospital room. At the first floor of the doctor's cabin of neuro ICU, the aluminium door was locked from inside and was forcibly opened.
"A syringe was found lying in the floor near the body, the injection was taken on the left side of the arm, her bag, mobile phone was also found near the body," said DCP West.
In the CCTV camera of the hospital, Munjal was seen working till 12.15 am after which she entered the doctor's cabin at 12.18 am. The cabin door was knocked upon by someone at 4.30 am and later, broke open by guards at 5.15 am, the officer said.
Munjal's parents and the Sub Divisional Magistrate have been informed about the incident and further investigation is underway, she said.
The deceased's family members are suspecting some foul play. "She had spoken to her husband at 10:45 pm and then went to do her duty. She checked the last patient at about 12:30 am," said one of the family member adding that the hospital has tried to show it as a suicide case.
"We are cooperating with the police and deceased family in the investigation and will always be there whenever police requires our cooperation in investigation. Hospital have also constituted five member internal committee to investigate the matter in detail," said the senior official at the hospital.
